Letter regarding the Rabbi’s Contract
Dear KSYM Amuta Member,
Baruch Hashem, KSYM has experienced tremendous growth over our 17 years in existence, growing to over 300 families today. On a given Shabbat, KSYM is home to as many as five minyanim, vibrant youth groups, multiple shiurim, and is bustling with activity. We owe a great debt of gratitude to our founding members for their vision and efforts over the years, and to all of our committee volunteers, Va’ad members - past and present - and of course to Rav Shlomo and Tali Sobol, whose responsibility, contributions and activities in the shul have expanded significantly over the years.
Rav Sobol’s employment contract is set to expire in a year. The Va’ad would like to begin a seamless and transparent process that enables the Amuta membership to faithfully execute Section 2(b) of the Articles of Association for Amutat Beit Knesset Ashkenaz Buchman Modiin (the “Takanon”), cited below:
2(b): Decisions regarding the appointment of the Rav, the conditions of the Rav’s employment
and the termination of his appointment shall be made at the General Meeting (or EGM) by approval of a majority of those present and entitled to vote.
As such, we are requesting your vote on whether or not to direct the Va’ad to negotiate renewal terms of the Rabbi’s contract.
In order to maximize the opportunity for participation in the vote on the renewal of Rav Sobol’s
contract, the Va’ad has opened an online electronic voting option as well as an “in-person” voting option at the shul on Saturday Night, May 20th from 8:30-10:00 PM.
Voting will close on Saturday night, May 20th, 2023, at 11:59 PM.
Click here to access the voting form.
Please note that a system has been implemented to ensure that all electronic voting is secret and confidential in that only the President of the Va’ad (and a member of the Audit Committee) will know that you voted but not how you voted.
Please note: All family memberships are entitled to two votes, and individual memberships to one vote. This is an exclusive right of our building fund (Amuta) members, and we encourage everyone to participate in the vote.
Beginning today, voting will commence on the following question:
ON JUNE 30, 2024, RAV SOBOL’S CONTRACT EXPIRES. THE VA’AD IS DIRECTED TO NEGOTIATE A NEW CONTRACT FOR THE CONTINUED EMPLOYMENT OF RAV SOBOL
X YES
X NO
Should the results of the vote authorize the Va’ad to extend Rav Sobol’s employment, the Va’ad will act
with haste to negotiate a contract which will be brought back to the Amuta for a final approval in accordance with the Takanon at our AGM meeting later this year.
Should the results of the vote result in Rav Sobol vacating his position, the Va’ad will commence a process to ensure compliance with our obligation under section 2(a)2 of the Takanon:
2(a)2: The Amuta will endeavor at all times to retain a rabbi (who shall in all events be an Orthodox rabbi) who will act as the sole and exclusive halachic authority for the Amuta and for the shul and shall be available to answer halachic questions posed by the Members, the Va’ad and the Gabbaim (the “Rav”). If the Rav is unavailable to answer halachic questions, the questions shall be referred to the Modiin Chief Rabbinate.
It is the strong desire of the Va’ad to conduct this process with the utmost respect for all viewpoints. Most importantly is that we maintain Derech Eretz towards one another and especially to Rav Sobol who has exhibited nothing but dedication to this community since he was first selected to lead our Kehilla in 2005.
If you have any questions or comments, please do not hesitate to reach out to Dov Katz or any other member of the Va’ad.
Thank you for your cooperation.
KSYM Va’ad
